Easter Cards - Part 1

I finished these yesterday 3/21/09

I hope you like them. They are also on my flickr

Death of a Banana, birth of dessert!

I had about 7 VERY ripe bananas this morning, begging to to be put out of their misery.
My husband won't eat them once they get 1 little brown spot on them, and I can't eat a ton. I promised them something great- Banana Bread and Banana Chocolate-Chip muffins. These I can eat a ton. With coffee! or Tea1
Theres a ton of great and easy peasy recipes using bisquick, which is what I used for both of these.

21 March 2009

is today Saturday already?

That was a quick day. It got quite warm here (90-ish) and the birds were quite happy. I even had one of the female Hummingbirds fly right up to me while I was in the yard watering.

She took a sip from this plant.

Signs Of Spring in Maricopa County

Signs of Spring! The top two were taken at http://www.riparianinstitute.org/. There were tons of waterfowl and water birds like Egrets, Avocets, Stilts, Cormorants and Coots.

Great place in Gilbert AZ for birding.

And I made Spring bird cards!

02 February 2009

The ducks were out in force tonight.

Lots of Ring Neck Ducks, even some females, which I haven't seen before at this lake. I guess they come back closer to dark.

We did have to avoid those evil geese a bit though. Coots are great fun, and we saw a few Cormorants again.

Coots at the Lake

We headed over to the park today to walk around the lake. We didn't get far because the sun was too bright. But, the Coots had us laughing. A few weeks ago ( before the picture) I had thrown one of them an olive from one of the trees near the lake. I don't know if I started a trend with them, but we noticed them running from the tree back to the lake as we approached. We decided turn around and go back, the Coots were back at the olive tree and one had an olive in it's beak. After we got a bit past them again, we turned and sure enough there were two the Coots heading back for the olive tree!

Happy New Year

Belated for Westerners, early for China.
Either way. :)

I've committed to using fewer chemicals, plastics, etc. this year. I already had last year, but this year even more so.

My latest-- which I've been using for about 2 months now-- is a great homemade micro-exfoliates that you can use on any skin type, every day. Yes, every day. Especially adult acne prone skin like mine. It's not exact, but tweak it to your liking. And it's relatively inexpensive and the ingredients will last a long time.

1 cup baking soda
1-2 tsp sweet almond oil (or olive or avocado)
1-2 tsp tea tree oil and or witch hazel (not the drug store kind. that has alcohol. go to the health food store)
2 Vitamin E caps or if you have Vitamin E oil use about a tsp
3 drops, essential oil of your choice. I use Lavender or Rose.
Mix it all into a paste, add a little water or baking soda until it's thick enough that it doesn't run but isn't crumbly either.

I keep mine in a small jar in the shower and use it just after washing away makeup. It moisturizes, gets rid of dry flaky skin and doesn't leave any residue. My husband even uses it sometimes before he shaves because he says it helps him get a closer shave. And, my skin almost never breaks out any more.

Let me know if you try it.
